“These are the best of times, these are the worst of times, but today is our time,” USC all-star basketball player Paula McGee said at the 2012 USC Alumni Women’s Conference.
No matter who you are, what you do, or your background and/or experience, your life will be filled with challenges that I can guarantee. I can also guarantee that at some point in life, you will question yourself, your abilities, and the decisions you make personally, professionally, and/or privately. But what is the message? With each situation, there is a lesson that you are given to learn, but whether you seek to understand it is completely and utterly up to you. And once you receive the message, then what? What will you do with the information? Will you process and embrace it, or ignore and throw it away so it can be repeated at a different time for you to rediscover?
The life we live is made to do just that… LIVE! Yes, life will sometimes be complex and challenging and may not even make sense, but it will also be filled with infinite possibilities and opportunities. You can change things at any given point, have a “do-over,” and start another day, another minute, and another hour anew. Would you take that challenge if given to you, and what is it worth?
Sometimes, being comfortable isn’t always a good thing. Sometimes, it could be the very thing that kills your spirit and decomposes the essence of your personal, professional, and/or private progress without knowing it. Change is difficult, yes! But so is lying idle and doing nothing to enhance and improve your own well-being. Make time to process your life, who you surround yourself with, and what you do for a living. Are you happy and fulfilled, or are you just living and content without being and feeling ALIVE? Only you can answer that question. These are the best of times and the worst of times. But today is our time… let's make it count!
